Wedding Planning Checklist
A checklist and timeline to help you to plan your wedding.
You need to start planning your wedding at least 6 months in advance of the big day. A year in advance gives you a better chance of getting exactly what you want. This is a timeline of what you need to be doing and when you need to be doing it. If you follow this, you will not go far astray. Simply work through the list at the advised time, checking off each item as you go.
Six to Twelve months before the big day.
You should now have a wedding budget to work with and a wedding guest list. You now need to:
- Book your wedding ceremony location.
- Book your wedding reception location.
- Interview and book your service providers, such as
- wedding musicians
- wedding photographer
- wedding official
- wedding food including wedding cake
- wedding flowers
- DJ (optional)
- Confirm who the attendants for bride and groom will be
- Select what you will wear and coordinate with others
- Arrange transport
- Put announcement in local newspaper, if relevant.
At least four months before the big day:
- Order wedding invitations, after completing a final guest list.
- Decide where you want to go for your honeymoon and arrange travel and book hotel.
- Confirm wedding dress and grooms rental wear. (And attire of the wedding party)
- Plan wedding shower
- Register for wedding gifts.
- Purchase wedding favors
- Organize accommodation for wedding guests if needed.
- Organize bridal suite.
- Agree where you will live after wedding
- Shop for wedding rings
- Consider a wedding day coordinator if you have alot planned
Two months before your big day:
- Mail wedding invitations.
- Organize rehearsal dinner.
- Make sure marriage license is coordinated with the state that you are getting married in.
- Select wedding music.
One month before your wedding day:
- Have wedding shower
- Final fittings for dresses
- Make hair and make-up appointments
- Purchase gifts for attendants.
Two weeks before:
- Organize joint financial matters such as bank accounts, and name changes.
- Get marriage license.
- Organize seating arrangements
- Check on other arrangements
Day before:
- Hair Appointment (unless having an evening wedding)
- Rehearsal and dinner.
The Wedding day arrives!
- Ensure that someone has money to pay off any expenses.
