Wedding Reception Location
Selecting the Wedding Reception LocationChoosing the location for the wedding reception should be done as early as possible after you have set a date for the big day. You will normally need to provide a deposit to hold the location for you, and this will most probably be non-refundable. In all cases check the cancellation policy of any place that you are considering hiring for your reception.
Number of People
When booking your venue, you will not need to have a definite number of people attending the wedding, but you will need to have a good estimate. Some venues will only hold so many people and you need to be aware of this, as it will often have a bearing on your choice of venue.
Full Packages
Many venues will have a whole wedding package available, and this often comes with the services of a wedding coordinator who can help you with the planning and fine details to make sure that your big day comes together without any hassle.
How Much Space?
Make sure that you look at the space available, and remember that everything happens in that space. The eating, drinking, socializing and dancing all have to happen in this one place, so it makes sense to try and visualize it, to ensure that there is enough space without people becoming too cramped.
Details
If you decide to go for a venue that is not part of a larger building, then you need to pay special attention to the details. You need to ensure that there are catering facilities, electric hook ups and back up equipment available. You need to make sure that there is sufficient lighting for the photographer, and if you are holding your reception outside, it is necessary to have a back up plan in case of inclement weather.
Choices
You can hold you wedding reception at any location you choose. Some like to have it at their parents home, or maybe in a park. Other choices available are restaurants or a museum. The venue will depend on the number of guests you expect to attend, your budget and of course your own preference. If you are holding an outdoor reception, determine in advance how to handle rain if it happens.
